Next Wave lounge log revealed

THE first piece of play equipment installed as part of the £5 million "Next Wave" Bexhill seafront improvement scheme was unveiled this week.

The "lounging logs" are just one of several features that will allow people to take part in activities as they make their way along the refurbished promenade.

Next Wave will create a series of garden "rooms" along West Parade which allow people to sit and relax, enjoy new planting schemes or make use of play equipment.

Other pieces of play equipment to be fitted in some rooms include "wobble boards" and beams, while the scheme will provide many more seats along the promenade. Next Wave's first phase, along West Parade, will be finished in the autumn. It has been necessary to build over the summer months to ensure good ground conditions and to have the project completed on time.

During this time, Rother District Council has kept as much of the promenade open as possible, including the Metropole Green.

Stage two of the scheme, which includes the green, Colonnade and rowing club, will take place over the winter months. This sets a final completion date of late-spring 2011. While work progresses, the council is offering short tours for people keen to find out more about the scheme.
