Nightly curfew for youth

A NIGHTLY curfew has been placed on a third youth as a result of the Egerton Park assault on 17-year-old student Willem Haymaker.

The curfew forms part of a two-year Supervision Order imposed on the youth by Hastings Juvenile Panel.

The 15-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced last Thursday for affray, having earlier admitted the offence.

The curfew will apply for three months and requires the boy to remain indoors between 9pm and 7am daily except Mondays when the order requires him to remain indoors between 10pm and 7am.

He received no separate sentence for the additional and unrelated accusation of actual bodily harm, to which he also pleaded guilty.

DC Ben Richardson of Rother CID said: "Supervision Orders require the offender and his parent to engage with the Youth Offending Team and are tailored to stop the young person from re-offending.

"All three young people identified as being involved in the attack against Willem were charged and have now been found guilty of affray and sentenced.

"I hope this reflects how seriously Sussex Police take violent crime and sends a clear message to young people in Bexhill that police won't tolerate yob behaviour."

Willem Haymaker is still under a consultant as a result of an injury to his left eye sustained in the attack. He has undergone reconstructive surgery on his nose, which was broken when he was kicked in the head.

Last month two 15-year-old youths who admitted affray were given nine-month Supervision Orders by the court and the case against the third youth adjourned for reports.
