Ninfield & Hooe Village Voice - May 16

News from Ninfield

COFFEE MORNING: Congratulations to Elaine and Catriona who organised the Coffee Morning in aid of the Sara Lee Trust. Those attending enjoyed the additional pleasure of buying from a bring and buy stall and drinking their coffee in the Reading Room garden in glorious sunshine. For the folk who supported the coffee morning but knew very little about the Trust Elaine has detailed information, should you wish to know more about the Trust which provides complementary therapies to people with cancer. The number to call is 01424 456608. Elaine and Catriona thank you for helping to raise 100 for the Sara Lee Trust.

FARMERS MARKET: I hope you have made a note in your diary to go to the first Farmers Market being held in the Memorial Hall tomorrow (Saturday), 10am to 12.30pm. It is hoped this will prove to be a success and become a monthly event. As I understand it everything on display will be sourced locally which could guarantee first class quality at reasonable prices. Is it possible I will see you there?

HOOE OPEN GROUP: Last Friday the sun shone brightly, it was really warm as the ladies gathered in Hooe village hall to enjoy another meeting. The speaker was Alan Fuller who had entitled his talk A Policeman's Lot. I have to say I was quite unaware being a policeman could include quite so many amusing anecdotes, even during 30 years service.

Alan had also brought a few items relating his career - a helmet (old type), riot helmet, first aid pack containing a bandage and six safety pins, (pre HAS,) and a whistle. The whistle produce no sound when blown, 'Have you lost your pea?' asked the chairman, I think that was the last laugh.

Next month a musical quiz has been arranged. If you would like to join the ladies please go to Hooe village hall in good time for a 2.30pm start. Members are there from 2pm which offers an opportunity to introduce yourself. Edna is always please to help if you ring her on 01424 842591.

HOOE Parish Council: The next meeting is on Monday (May 19) at 7.30pm in Hooe village hall. The chairman and councillors are always pleased to see Hooe residents at the meeting and hope something on the agenda will have caught their eye.

NINFIELD Bowls Club: The weather certainly has favoured outdoor sports, the Bowls Club members thoroughly enjoyed the match played at home against Pett on May 7. Ninfield were the winners, 85-70. Last Saturday's match was a Rother League match played away at Westfield. The Ninfield team won on two and lost on two, Westfield were the overall winners by three shots. The match on Sunday, May 11 was a home match against a team from the Observer.

COACH TRIP: If you have a free day on Wednesday, July 16, why not consider joining a coach trip to Amberley Working Museum. The cost of the coach is 8, entrance fee to Amberley, with concession, is 7.30. There is much to see and enjoy crafts, exhibits of things past, bagmender's shed, claypipe maker and many more. You can ride round on a narrow gauge railway or a vintage bus not possible to find elsewhere. It is possible to enjoy coffee, lunch and tea in the excellent Limeburners Restaurant. Please ring 01424 892777 or 01424 212663 if you would like to book a seat or two. More information about the journey nearer the date, reminders will follow.

SOCIAL EVENING: There will be a Cheese and Wine evening in the Reading Room on Saturday, May 31, from 7pm. This is in aid of St. Michael's Hospice at Home so please make a note in your diary to come and support this event. This is the organisation that supports people in our local area who are living with cancer. There will be a raffle and a very warm welcome.

MOBILE LIBRARY: Yes it is time for the valued service to call in both our villages tomorrow (Saturday). It will be in Hooe, parked opposite Denbigh Court from 1.50pm to 2.35pm. Hope you have had time to read your previous choice Anne. It then leaves for Ninfield arriving in Millfield at 2.50pm and remaining until 3.25pm hopefully offering a good read. The last call in Ninfield is in Downs View, the van arrives at 3.40pm and departs at 4.05pm during which time I hope you found something by your favourite author.

WINDMILL HILL: There will be a fund-raising event in aid of the windmill at Windmill Hill held in the ballroom of Herstmonceux Castle. A virtuoso violin concert played by Midori Sugiyama and Toby Tramaseur. If this is of interest please ring 01323 833023 or 01323 023 to arrange tickets. You may recall I mentioned the windmill is open to the public on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month and Bank Holidays. It is the largest fully restored post mill in the UK.

NINFIELD Golden Circle: Next Tuesday (May 20) the ladies will gather in the Memorial Hall to hear Peter Nance tell them about Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. Visitors and new members are most welcome at the Memorial Hall, members are there from 2pm which gives you an opportunity to arrive early to meet them. Proceedings start at 2.30pm.

RAINFALL: I am sorry it has taken me so long to bring you the details of last month's rainfall, the delay is entirely my fault (it usually is) we had 58.5mm equal to two and one eighth inches according to Diana. She also mentioned the weather in April was horrid, only six warm days, snow and lots of nasty cold winds. There was frost too. I got the distinct feeling Diana had not enjoyed April at all. The calf I mentioned Diana had told us about was continuing to do well, mother is fine too.

NINFIELD Flower Group: On Monday (May 19) the ladies welcome Tilda Conway who is doing her final workshop with 'Manipulation of Leaves'. The members already have their list of requirements all they need to do now is be pleased with their results. The meeting takes place in the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm.
