Observer helps charity donation find group

A BEXHILL charity has received a £500 donation - thanks to an appeal by the Bexhill Observer.

Last year, the Bexhill Tesco superstore, at Ravenside Retail and Leisure Park, tried to get in touchwith the Bexhill Hospital League of Friends to offer them a £500 donation as part of their Christmas community initiatives.

Attempts to make contact were unsuccessful, and it was not until the Observer asked the charity to get in contact that the donation was made.

Hazel Lingham, the store’s community champion, said: “Before Christmas, we were desperately trying to offer the Bexhill Hospital League of Friends their cheque, as we also made Christmas donations to the Hastings RNLI and St Michael’s Hospice as part of our commitment to supporting the local community.

“Thanks to the Observer newspapers, an appeal was made and the charity have now been sent their donation, so thank you!

“The team and I here at Bexhill Tesco are thrilled to make the donation, and we really hope it makes a difference to the hospital.”

Stuart Earl, chairman of the Fridns, thanked Tesco for the donation and the Observer to raising awareness of the situation.

“We are delighted to receive the cheque, and plan to put the money towards improving the outdoor amenities at the Irvine Unit.”
