Open call for artists and designers

The exhibition, entitled ‘Art – Form and Function’, will marry the two art traditions of Art and Crafts.

The gallery’s director, Joe Nguyen says the exhibition is contemporary in its nature and will include modern artworks from local and regional artists along with contemporary designers and makers of crafts. “Like all ‘Opens’, the gallery is offering any artist or designer to submit their artwork for consideration,” he said. “Artworks can include paintings, prints, sculpture, photography, ceramics, jewellery and other artisan crafts.”

The exhibition lasts for 5 weeks from November 29 until January 1, 2017. Deadlines for submissions is November 27.

Reflecting on the gallery’s first year Joe says it has been an amazing experience. “We never thought we would receive such support and interest from the people of Bexhill and the surrounding area in our little contemporary art gallery,” he said. “It has been a real regenerative process for the town. In the last year we have put on 18 different exhibitions – which for a small gallery is a lot. Been part of the Root 1066 International Art Festival, became a home for a local art society, raised over £500 for Refugee charity, hosted and organised classes and events and, overall, increased numbers of people coming to the town to see art and culture. It’s been a hard slog but we have really enjoyed it.”
