Open day raises a purrfect amount of cash

Dozens of people took the opportunity to talk to the animals and help raise hundreds of pounds for local charity, Bluebell Ridge Cat Rehoming Centre last Sunday (July 24).

As the sun shone down Bluebell Ridge opened its doors to welcome what Myra Grove, Cattery Manager says was “a fantastic number of visitors”.

The open day included a variety of stalls, including raffles, children’s games, nail art and a tombola.

The public also had the chance to visit the cats that were looking for homes, and Myra says the centre had numerous enquiries and reserves taken on the cats. “Five have possibly been found new homes, including our little superstar kitten, Digby,” she said.

The open day raised a total of £1,351.52 which Myra says is a great boost to the charity. “This is a truly fantastic amount and I am overwhelmed by how many people came to support our open day. We were also lucky with the wonderful weather on the day.”

Bluebell Ridge holds three open days throughout the year, with their next and last one for the year being held on Sunday, September 25.

The cattery at Chowns Hill is open every day, except Thursdays, from 11am –3pm

Bluebell Ridge is owned and operated by the Sussex East and Hastings branch of the RSPCA. It is a separate charity within the national body and is entirely self-

financing. Each year the branch has to raise more than £150,000 to keep the cattery open.
