Observer Comment: Help beat crime - and earn some discounts too

IF you care about your community and are especially interested in issues of crime and public safety, then Bexhill Town Hall today at 2pm is the place and time to be.

That’s when Rother Neighbourhood Watch is launching an innovative new scheme, and all members of the public are invited to come along to the meeting in the council chambers.

But it’s not just about banding together to look out for one another and reducing the fear of criminal activity - the involvement of local traders will result in benefits to any resident signing up.

Any business which is on board this ground-breaking project, the first of its kind in the country, will offer discounts to customers bearing Rother Neighbourhood Watch’s Privilege Card.

Scheme founders Charles McIlwrick, John Fielder and Peter Wylie hope to put Bexhill on the map with this idea, which if successful could well be rolled out across the UK in the future.

The Bexhill, Rye and Battle Observers are proud to be sponsoring this initiative, which looks to provide a win-win situation for the average law-abiding citizen.

If Rother Neighbourhood Watch is as successful as it deserves to be with this endeavour, the only losers will be the criminals themselves.
