Observer Comment: Maternity unit: A259 point still remains

The original idea to have one unit either at this hospital or Eastbourne’s District General Hospital was thrown out in 2007 after a fierce campaign from both sides.

This was mainly down to the distance being too great between sites and conditions along the A259.

While Bexhill mums might not be as badly affected by such a move, as the town sits more or less in the middle, the A259 factor remains.

The road hasn’t improved since 2007, in fact it could be argued it has got marginally worse.
