Observer Comment: RBL home's call for volunteers should provide interesting roles

BEXHILL is well-known for its sense of community.

There are many local charities dedicated to helping out those who need it, and many chances for residents to volunteer with them if they wish to do so.

If readers do have some spare time and are thinking of giving something back to the community, there’s a chance to apply for some very varied roles with one of the town’s best-loved establishments.

Mais House, the home for ex-servicemen and women run by the Royal British Legion, has a number of dedicated volunteers but is urgently seeking more.

There are plans to start a workshop which could do with volunteers with crafts and trades skills, plus chances to help in the bar and act as security on the doors for events such as the yearly summer fete.

The managers of Mais House have made it clear they will make sure each volunteer receives proper training such as in first aid and fire awareness, so you will be well looked after.

And who knows - if you give up some of your time for the summer fete, you might just possibly rub shoulders with the likes of Graham Norton, who opened the event last year.
