Bexhill in verse

John Horton of Cooden Drive has covered both land and sea with these poems:

Fatal Voyage of the Amsterdam

This fatal ship set sail from the North Dutch coast

To cross wide treacherous seas

The first thing they encountered

Was a strong westerly wind

Instead of a tranquil breeze

Struggling against each powerful wave

The ship would rock and sway

Determined to defy the bleak cruel sea

To reach those islands far away

Battling though storm and tempest in the channel

At an alarming horrific pace

The ship ran aground near Bulverhythe

now her final resting place.

Bexhill West

From sleepy Crowhurst to Bexhill

That branch was oh! such fun

To pass over the brick viaduct

That stood out in the sun.

Those little pull and push trains

That chugged along their way

Working very hard and shunting through the day.

But now its story is over

and all the tracks are gone

The memory and the ghost trains will always echo on.
