A bit too early for a mayday?

It's not unusual for Bexhill matters of a serious or perhaps otherwise, nature to be in contention.

In general though, I’m in favour of Jackie Bialeska and others who perform a vital democratic role by opposing the ‘powers that be’ and highlighting often bizarre ‘policy’ decisions.

I do feel that she may be going over the top in her premature criticism of the forthcoming new hostelry on Western Road however, which is very likely to be quite different from anything seen before.

The chief executive was on Question Time last week.

Despite an obvious vested interest, his pronouncements regarding the hospitality industry and alcohol usage [in the past] have often made much more sense than those of politician in charge!

It’s unlikely that Western Road is being made to look shabby intentionally – blight?

When I was in dialogue with his company regarding naming the outlet and the Bexhill J L Baird connection last year, the Observer published my letters and it was stated then that work on the premises was likely to start in May of this year.

Hopefully it will go ahead as planned but it seems a bit early for a ‘mayday’ call yet.

Don’t align yourself too readily with people who complain about everything Jackie, it can undermine all your very legitimate concerns elsewhere.
I’m not a reactionary and I favour progress combined with sensible change but often monies are spent that appear to achieve neither.

I don’t think that will be the [private enterprise] story down Western Road in the end.

I should say that I’ve no connection with the company at all other than some correspondence.

My favourite Observer headline is still “We will fight to the death to preserve the status quo!” not that it wasn’t appropriate comment at the time [re parking charges] but that its irony, in terms of a certain local mind set, went completely unnoticed.

How we laughed!
