Can someone explain?

I HAVE just made my second visit to Bexhill and was appalled at the sight that greeted me on the West Seafront. I appreciate that this is still a work in progress BUT -

Can someone explain to me if the new structures are functional, recreational or artistic? They do not appear to be functional as the plants I assume they are meant to protect are already dying.

They could be recreational as a children’s play area but the site is next to a busy main road with little to separate speeding cars from those playing there. Additionally there is a superb play area just across the road behind the flats so I fail to see the need for more play equipment. For those who wish to sit and while away the hours the new seats are hardly designed with comfort in mind. Are they then artistic? In my opinion no. Some structures even look like gravestones!

I would also like to ask what has happened to the functional shelters. Admittedly they needed a face lift but added charm to the seafront and were entirely in keeping with the area.

I note, with relief, that currently the East Seafront is untouched. I trust that this remains so and that whoever is responsible for the desecration of the West Seafront is not allowed to continue this “march of progress.”

Coming from a town which prides itself in preserving and protecting its heritage, I urge the people of Bexhill to ensure that what remains of your beautiful town is secured for the generations of residents and visitors of the future.
