Charity should begin at home

I am an OAP and a retired professional soldier and like many of my generation who have worked all their life are still being dropped of from even greater heights.

As voting fodder, we have an almighty clout.

Politicians need to start taking us seriously.

They are forever dipping into our pockets, we could call then the legal pick-pocketing association.

We never get anything in return for our loyalty.

It is established practice to change these rates annually each April in line with the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation figure calculated the previous September.

The CPI figure for September 2015 was negative (-0.1 per cent) and so it’s been decided that from April 2016, WPS pensions and allowances will remain the same as the 2015 rates.

This approach is consistent with the rates of disability benefits paid by the Department for Work and Pensions.

If this is the case why has there been an increase in our council tax by at least four per cent and with water, electricity, gas and Sky TV putting up their rates?

Is there no ending for many living in poverty or on its edge?

The government having introduced the living wage which will in some cases put people out of work.

What about a living pension for those who have served their country in so many ways?

With no pension increase, how are we supposed to meet these?

The UK is the fifth richest country in the world.

We as a nation are the most generous in the world. Always the first to dig deep when there is a world tragedy.

With MPs getting two pay increases in the last period, there is something wrong.

Charity begins at home and the government need to take note.
