Flying the flag for football

In June of this year its the football Euro 2016 in France, I know that football isn't everyone's favourite past time but I believe that leading up to the tournament it brings on a feel good factor.

Its nice to see driving around our lovely town the George Flags appear (our national flag) on cars, houses, gardens, shops etc I think even those who don’t have an interest in football get drawn in by the patriotism shown by others. Lots of people think we don’t have a chance again but there is always that maybe, you never know hope!

Wouldn’t it be great if they could emulate our sporting hero who on that hot afternoon in July, 1966, when the great late Bobby Moore held aloft the Jules Rimet World Cup, can you imagine the euphoria if we did it again this July?

There would be street parties, the prime minister would grant a public holiday, the crosses of St George would be fluttering in the breeze on those two unused flag poles at the town hall, sorry I just went into the realms of fantasy then.

I went down the town the other day and popped in the bookmakers and asked what were the chances of the George Flag (our national flag) being flown by the town hall for the duration of the football.

They informed me that they would give better odds of me scoring the winning goal against Germany in the final.

Anyway on that note I must go, these football kits don’t clean themselves, oh hang on wait a minute: “Some of the town hall staff are in the square, they think its all over, it is now”.
