Hope Southern thinks twice

I would like to voice my concerns about plans for the 2018 train service timetable.

As a regular visitor to Bexhill, with family and friends in the town, I would be unhappy to see unnecessary disruption to the train routes and network.

Over recent years I’ve discovered how handy it is to use Bexhill as a base for discovering more of Sussex and Kent. I don’t need to use my car when the train makes places like Rye and Canterbury easily accessible.

I’ve been able to arrange family meet-ups in Bexhill, knowing that it’s a central point and ideal for anyone using public transport.

I’ve also been able to say to friends and colleagues from Kent and north of London that Bexhill is within relatively easy reach – coming to the De La Warr pavilion, for example, requires one straightforward change of train at Ashford International on Southeastern’s high speed service.

I wouldn’t be comfortable making the same recommendation if a new timetable meant that a further change of train at Hastings was needed.

I very much hope Southern Rail will seriously reconsider any such plans and instead look at how they can work with local organisations to attract more visitors to Bexhill and the surrounding area.
