If you use it you should pay for it

Most right-minded people would agree if one uses a service, one should pay towards it (council tax: 18/12/15).

That was the beauty of the Poll Tax so violently resented by (left-minded) free-loaders!

Rother’s assumption that all self-employed people work (and earn) a minimum 35-hour week deserves a legal challenge.

Such is the nature of work, even the government recognises that many self-employed work less than 16 hours per wk (eg: share-fishermen) while many employees chose to work less than 16 hours to keep state benefits.

Public sector employees are a burden on rate and tax-payers, being paid whether they work efficiently, inefficiently or not (I was a work study engineer in local government and industry, so I do know).

In contrast private sector employees depend on consumers’ habits and wealth; they are paid if briefly idle, or made redundant.

Yet the truly self-employed (as opposed to the contentious contracted ‘self-employed’) have no guaranteed hours or income, earning only if orders materialise and are paid for.

Their seven-day week varies from one to 84 strike-free hours, rarely ever 35 hours fully paid; they often live off savings which (having been daft enough to be self-employed and having saved) bars them from any benefits!

The council must treat rate-payers fairly but, typically, Cllr Prochak’s Lib-Dem solution to everything is ‘raise taxes’!

How about, for once, increasing efficiency and cutting costs to lower the burden on rate-payers?

In 1997 Tony ‘Baldrick’ Blair devised a cunning plan to rid us of gun-crime by illegally held hand-guns: he banned legally held hand-guns.

Gun-crime by illegally held hand-guns has since rocketed!

Having learned this lesson from history, Baldrique (the EU’s master policymaker) has devised an equally cunning plan: destroy all legally held museum guns (bombards, culverines, flint-locks, Martini-Henry muzzle loaders) to stop them falling into the hands of Kalishnikov waving ISIL pike-men!

Needless to say the Lib Dems remain silent over their solution to ISIL!

Oh yes, our dysfunctional world truly has gone mad... but will 2016 be any better? Watch this space!
