Include local knowledge
THE letter from Cllr Brian Kentfield (Observer, November 19) concerning the town centre steering group was very welcome. Anyone who knows him will be certain that the group will be properly run.
I trust it will not be taken amiss if I make some comments at this stage.
Rother District Council is patron of the scheme and it behoves it to include knowledgeable ratepayers in their group from the beginning.

Hide AdIf they bring in professionals such as architects, town planners, highway officials and quantity surveyors then they must be properly and strictly briefed and controlled. They must also be told all the way through that the budget is strictly limited.
Having obtained several viable schemes for the town centre, the council can then instruct the officers to put one of them into effect, but responsibility must lie with the council not the officers.
