Just reward forcommitment

BATTLE Town Band, the premier brass band in East Sussex, draws its players from Bexhill and several other localities around Battle.

On Saturday, March 20, 2010 the band won first prize in its section of the London and Southern Counties Regional Championships for the second year running.

Last Sunday, March 20, exactly one year on from that success, which gained them automatic promotion to section three, they came fourth out of 14 bands in this higher section.

It is indeed a remarkable achievement to be placed so near the top of their new section in their first year.

It is a just reward for their commitment and continued hard work under the baton of Jon Penton, their musical director.

‘A Little Light Music’ (Eine Kleine Leichte Musik!)– a composition by Philip Wilby in five movements - was the ‘test piece’ played by all the bands competing in section three and Battle Town Band’s performance attracted some very favourable comments from the adjudicator.

We have few opportunities to listen to the band in Bexhill-on-Sea, but Eastbourne seems to be more enlightened.
