Open, clean, friendly

AS a parent of a young pupil at Bexhill High School I wanted to write in and pass on my impression of the reports I have had back this week from my awestruck child.

Having got over the surprise of suddenly being amongst a vast number of pupils with all the associated hustle and bustle, the space is still apparently big and open, clean and friendly.

Each time they have a different lesson, the stories come home about how bang up to date all the new facilities are and how the staff are keen and proud to be showing it all off.

I have heard that access at the start and finish times have been congested, but even though I also drive in, as we live well over five miles away, I have not got caught up in any of it merely by avoiding Gunters Lane itself.

I have experienced exactly the same congestion at the primary schools my children have attended, even though those schools were many times smaller.

It is good to see that the pupils have all been briefed by the local police as well as staff as to road safety and ‘bikeability’ as these are valuable lessons for life as well as during these dark winter evenings.

The third session seems to take a bit of getting used to, but the tiredness is already being outweighed by enthusiasm for the new range of activities offered.

With a modicum of co-operation and compromise to get things running smoothly, I am sure all our children attending the new school will have opportunities that they would otherwise never have had, which will benefit them enormously for the future.
