Please protect this woodland

Dear Cllrs Bridget George& Richard Carroll,

I was dismayed to read, hidden in the Property Pages (Observer, April 15),that St Marys Wood is advertised for sale by auction(along with several other parcels of land which I don’t know so can’t comment).

Now we all know that RDC is strapped for cash but this little wood is a delightful oasis of wildlife alive with bird song where many locals like to take their dogs.

What is of even more concern is that the advert is so phrased as to suggest that development might not encounter too much opposition.

This area is a self-contained eco system which we need to hold onto as development is robbing us of so many

Massive planting schemes are all well and good but take time to mature and establish by which time some species may be lost forever. I would urge you to withdraw this parcel of land from sale or at the very least impose conditions which ensure it remains a pretty little wood.

Perhaps a deal could be struck similar to The Highwoods?

Please,at least go and see for yourselves.
