Stand on your own two feet

When I read the somewhat alarmist article on event funding my first reaction was '˜tough, I never saw any of the £750,000' and by and large I continue to promote this view - I mean, where does it end?

Shall I start a business and then ask the council to subsidise me? I don’t think that is likely to happen.

I can agree with free parking (as opposed to free for all parking)and waste disposal but business is about enterprise so instead of throwing money at events leave it at practical assistance to organisers.

Then I had a change of heart and thought about the amount of cash the council give the DLWP.

As far as I am concerned, our council tax should be spent on services and supporting the vulnerable, leaving commercial enterprises to stand on their own feet, but then maybe I am just an old cynic!
