Time for other contributions

Nearly every week the Observer publishes a column titled Just a Thought this is invariably written by a priest, a vicar, a bishop or some other kind of religious leader.

Given that a recent government social attitudes survey shows the population of the UK to be more than 50 per cent non-religious isn’t it about time that this column included contributions from a non-religious perspective?

After all many of our finest thinkers, our philosophers, scientists and writers have no religion.
