The leader of the council already being Keith Glazier of Pett, thus making the east of the county holding all of the major positions on the council!

Lengthy arguments for and against, including concerns about future numbers of pupils rising, were put forward followed by a vote of the councillors present.

The motion supporting the petition was carried and the current ruling party on the council was defeated by 28 votes to 20. Power to the People!

Then followed discussions on various other matters, a recurring theme of which was the unwelcome ‘cuts’ being made by the council on many of its services.

At this point I could bear it no longer and interjected to remind councillors that these cuts (savings) were necessary to enable the government to scrape up enough cash to pay its dues to Brussels.

I also explained to them that anyone who votes to stay in the EU in the coming referendum will, at the same time, be voting for even more ‘cuts’ in the future.
