Vote of no confidence?

DOES the De la Warr Pavilion management enjoy the confidence of Rother District Council? From the statements made at Monday's meeting of the full council it would appear not.

At the beginning of the discussion on Bexhill Alliance’s petition calling for changes in the funding of the Pavilion a string of statistics were presented on Councillor Patten’s behalf to demonstrate the success of the Pavilion under its present management.

However given the opportunity to agree to the petition’s request that £120,000 of the £500,000 the council gives annually to the Pavilion be based on performance his fellow councillors seemed less certain.

One after another his fellow councillors Davies, Kenward and Maynard each rose to state that the proposal would destabilise the funding of the Pavilion to the extent that it would put its future in jeopardy.

Surely if the management of the Pavilion is as good as Cllr Patten claims they would rise to the challenge of having a small proportion of their budget based on performance?

Which is it to be councillors – sufficient faith in the management of the Pavilion to earn £120,000 of its funding based on performance assessment or the complete lack of confidence displayed by continuing to fund it with no strings attached?
