Yet he fails to mention that despite Sadiq Khan becoming London Mayor with a paltry 20 per cent of the votes, Labour ended the night with fewer councillors than it started with, and more significantly, ended third place in Scotland behind Ruth Davidson’s Tories.
He writes off Scotland as a ‘dead sheep’ – presumably because Labour was virtually wiped out there and, as I’m sure Mr Jackson is aware, without Scotland, Labour cannot hope to win a UK general election.
On which planet does this constitute ‘triumph’?
Only on Planet Jackson I would submit.

Hide AdNo doubt Mr Jackson in his next column – sorry, letter – will be explaining why black is really white, up is really down, and how Jeremy Corbyn will leading the faithful to the Socialist Paradise he dreams of in 2020.
