Why did it take 20 years?

Cllr Martin Kenward announced at last Monday's cabinet meeting that he was very happy and delighted to support the Conservative flagship policy of permitting petitioners to address our planning committee meetings.

While we, as residents, can be pleased at this move to ensure our councillors are truly aware of feelings for and against plans presented to the council one can only marvel that this flagship policy took a mere 20 years to gestate.

Lib Dems tried, on several occasions over many years, to persuade the council that the opportunity for the public to address the planning committee enhanced the democratic process.

This was all going on long before accessing plans and the opportunity to express views on line was even a twinkle in our council’s eye.

Let us hope that the delay, and the advancement of modern technology, does not deter people from making face to face representation to our planning committee.

Oh just to let you know that the implementation of this scheme is not scheduled to commence until, by the latest, December, 2017!
