Overwhelmed by people's response

'ABSOLUTELY brilliant' was the description of the Royal Wedding party at St Barnabas church.

The organisers were “overwhelmed” with the number of people who turned up and then stayed for a day of celebration while watching all the action on a big screen set up specially for the occasion.

Organiser Sally Cowlard said: “It was absolutely brilliant.

“We were packed and everybody had a great time. We were absolutely amazed at the amount of people that came, to be honest.

“We served ploughmans’ lunches, tea, coffee and cakes, and it went down very well. Everyone stayed to the end, and the day made a lot of money for the church.”

She said watching the event from the inside of a large church made the audience feel they were practically in Westminster Abbey themselves, and everyone enjoyed waving mini flags made by Helen Hay.

“It was lovely, it really was. We were overwhelmed by the amount of people that came to be perfectly honest.”

Sally organised the event with the help of Judy and Gina Creasey, and thanks those who contributed who also included Kim Carter, for his expertise with the screen, Kath and Ron Alexander who held the raffle, and Sylvia and Brian Thring, who were in charge of the tombola.
