Park future: your views

THE thoughts of hundreds of Bexhill residents have been translated into broad design ideas to improve Egerton Park. It is part of the Egerton Park Innovation and Conservation (EPIC) project.

The main issues raised in the consultation carried out over the past weeks, include the need for enhanced visitor facilities and greater security, a desire for improved water quality in the lakes and better drainage of the grassy areas, and a wish for events and activities to be held on a regular basis.

Cllr Deirdre Williams, portfolio holder for working in partnership said: "The number of responses to the recent consultation exercise clearly showed how passionately local people feel about the park and its potential to be a greater asset to the community.

"We can now begin to address the issues raised through a combination of sensitive design and consideration to the park's management."

Landscape and heritage specialists, Atkins, who are working with the EPIC steering group have completed various reports concerning the park's heritage with ways to increase its use and improve access, landscape and facilities. These documents will form the foundations of EPIC and enable a bid for further Lottery funding to be made next year.

Summaries of the reports are available to view and comment on at www.rother.gov.uk/egerton.

The findings of the recent consultation and the design ideas that have evolved will be on display at the De La Warr Pavilion on Sunday, from 1.30-8pm. Members of the Atkins team will be happy to talk through the findings and how this is being translated into design concepts.
