Patchwork post

Writing envelopes, sorting out letters - the children at Patchwork nursery learned all about the mail when postman Paul Plim paid them a visit.

He told them all about his job and how letters are delivered and then they got stuck into making their own bright red postbox and creating first class art.

His visit was part of the People That Help Us work they are doing every week - they have already been visited by a hairdresser, paramedic and policeman.

Supervisor Louise Allen said: "Paul was really good - he is brilliant with the kids. when the policeman came in they were a bit in awe, but they did enjoy it. The paramedic put their legs in splints and did bandages - they loved the bandages too. Paul brought his bike along, and they tried on his fluorescent jacket and postbag."

Patchwork nursery is based in the guides' hut on London Road, having moved there from the Drill Hall.

The nursery is registered for 24 pre-school children aged between 2-5, and at the moment 19 attend, so there are vacancies.

"Every day is different here," said Louise.

"It is a nice building - after all it was built for children, for brownies and guides to use. It is warm and friendly - and that is how we like to come across."

Linda, who runs the nursery with co-supervisor Poppy Davies, has had 19 years experience of working with children.

"I could say it's so rewarding - but I know everyone always says that. But no two days are the same - and you never know what is going to happen."
