Steven Ryan, of Alford Way, Bexhill, accused Barratt Homes, which is currently building more than 100 houses on land off Pebsham Lane, of ‘undermining’ residents’ ‘physical and mental wellbeing’.

He said: “Living for 20 years with nothing but fields and farmland at the back of our homes we are now subjected to a living hell. The whole house shudders and shakes and you can hear glass rattling around. What is this doing to the foundations of existing homes? The massive diggers stare over our back gardens and into our bedrooms. We were assured by Barratt representatives this construction would be done in a sensitive way.”

Gerry Rice, contracts manager for Barratt Homes, said: “Unfortunately during the development process there is inevitably some noise. We are doing all we can to minimise disturbance and the majority of groundwork taking place closest to existing homes is complete. We would like to thank the community for its understanding while these much-needed homes are being built and urge anyone who has any concerns to call us on 01483 505533.”
