Pebsham Princess Competition

NINE little girls entered the Pebsham Princess competition at the Pebsham Community Centre on Saturday, and the judges were all in agreement that they had a difficult time selecting just one winner and deputy.

Taking the winning title of Pebsham Princess along with tiara, sash and prize of a silver necklace, was Victoria Rimmer; Amy-Liegh Hickman was chosen as Deputy Princess.

Chairing the event was Rother District Councillor for Pebsham, Cllr Charles Clark and Chair of Pebsham Community Centre Marion Bowles.

The judging panel consisted of three retired ladies from the community, Anne Gadd, Jackie Johnson and Margaret Mayer, whom Marion explained had been chosen as they did not personally know any of the entrants.

Announcing their decision to the girls Margaret said: "We wished we could have chosen you all, it was a very hard choice with all of you looking so beautiful and being so well behaved."

Ten year old Victoria was entered for the competition by her Grandma Jean, who accompanied her to the competition, and is a pupil at Little Common school.

Victoria said she was, "really shocked" to have been chosen as the winner but added, "I'm pleased, and I think my Dad and Step-Mum will be pleased with me."

Amy-Liegh 10, a pupil at Pebsham County Primary, said she had entered the competition as she, "wanted to represent Pebsham," adding, "I was surprised to have been chosen and I am pleased that Victoria won."

The girls will be kept busy in the next year attending many events including riding on the Community Princess/Queen float at the Carnival in July.
