As well as scoring lots of goals passed Martin, the pupils’ competition raised over £700 for St Mary’s, which is a registered charity.

Martin, who has worked with Colorado Rapids USA, was invited by North Lodge, one of the pupil houses at St Mary’s and welcomed by Archie, North Lodge ambassador for the week.

Martin took the boys through a warm up routine then took his place in goal for the competition assisted by different pupils from North Lodge.

St Mary’s Care Staff member Adam Davies, who dressed as a reindeer for the occasion, set up the balls ready for the shots.

Everyone had at least six shots on goal with scores recorded by House Manager Ann Whiteman. She said: “It was a really enjoyable day. We thank Martin for coming along and supporting the boys in. The most important thing to come out of the event was that boys who had never wanted to kick a ball before joined in and had a go.”

Jonathan Smalldon, Fundraising and Marketing Manager at St Mary’s, added: “Everyone had a tremendous time and every penny raised will make a difference to the pupils here. Thank you to Westfield FC for all of their support.”
