Bexhill footway remains closed after masonry falls from building but road reopens

A road in Bexhill that was closed after a large amount of masonry fell from a building has reopened but the footway remains closed.

Sea Road was shut between De La Warr Parade and Cantelupe Road due to an ‘unsafe building’.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “On Wednesday (April 7) at 11.45am police responded to a report of masonry having fallen from a building in Sea Road, Bexhill. ”

Officers were called to the scene alongside East Sussex Fire and Rescue. and Highways Agency.

On Thursday morning, East Sussex Highways said the section of road between De La Warr Parade and Cantelupe Road has been reopened, but a footway closure remains in place at the location.

A spokesman for East Sussex Fire added: “We were called at 11:13 to attend a residential building on Sea Road, Bexhill following reports of a dangerous structure. Firefighters from Bexhill attended.

“Upon arrival, crews found a large amount of masonry had fallen from the front of a building. Crews made the scene safe and handed over the incident to building control and Sussex Police.”
