Trish Tingey, of Oakleigh Road in Little Common, near Bexhill, claimed the construction work has left areas of the street inches deep in mud and blocked her access route.

She said: “It’s pretty awful. They’ve promised time and time again but it just gets worse.

“My husband can’t walk and has a mobility scooter but he can’t go out because it’s so dangerous due to the deep mud. The only access for the house we can use is the drive into the garage.”

She said a lot of mess was left after utility companies arrived to lay gas pipes in the ground before David Wilson Homes arrived to start construction of the new homes.

Mrs Tingey added: “My husband has not been able to get out for seven months. He can’t risk falling over off the scooter.”

The building work in the area is part of David Wilson Homes’ Rosewood Park development, which will see a total of 150 new three-, four- and five-bedroom homes delivered.

The development launched in 2018.

A David Wilson Homes spokesman said: “The works in question are currently being conducted by a separate contractor who is undertaking maintenance to the gas mains in the public highway and is under licence from the local authorities, and not David Wilson Homes.

“We are sorry to hear about the situation that this resident faces caused by these works and as a gesture we will ensure that their access route is cleared. We will also communicate with the local authorities to inform them of the situation.

“David Wilson Homes will be starting works to Oakleigh Road with East Sussex County Council in February and we will ensure the area is kept clean and all residents access fully maintained.”
