She said: “My term as Mayor is now coming to a close, however, this does not mean the work I have started with community groups is going to stop and I am now focusing on the positive and exciting things our town has to look forward to.

“One of the projects I will be championing is W.Ave Arts.

“The festival organised last summer by W.Ave Arts blew me away, a series of back alleys had been transformed into a hive of activity of everything artistic and creative. Residents and local artists had set up stalls in back yards, doorsteps and driveways. The vibe was so upbeat and full of community spirit.

“This completely inspired me to get involved and try and get people together to replicate other projects in other areas of the town and villages, linking up other artists and anyone, of any age, who would like to get involved.

“The big dream is to make Bexhill a jewel on the South Coast for creativity and art. We will be looking to use the empty spaces and walls within the public realm creatively while bringing the community together. It will Show the world how we love where we live, with the hope in the coming months, when we are allowed, to boost tourism in the town.

“W.Ave Arts and I have been working on this exciting project for quite some time and have welcomed support from RDC Councillors, the Chamber of Commerce and Tourism and many artists and residents.

“The aim now is to build on the initial event, for everyone to work together to achieve common goals for the best of Bexhill in a project called ‘Bexhill gets Creative’. When everyone unites and different skill sets are pulled in from every angle, we can achieve anything! This is what it should be about.

“We want to deliver experiences and interventions which will transform not only our physical town but also the mental health of our residents and visitors. So, in the words of Carol Cook who is the co-founder of W.Ave Arts, “We will be brave!”

“W.Ave Arts will kick start this project by creating a legal graffiti wall in Bexhill town. This will generate a safe space for individuals to explore their boundaries and progress without the fear of getting into trouble. W.Ave Arts are hoping that people will transition to this legal wall so they can take time to practice and enhance their skills, eventually creating masterpieces – work will be constantly monitored and pictures of the art will be uploaded to @w.aveartsfestival social media site.

“As projects come on board, we will be updating you through various media channels, and if you are interested in taking part or getting involved then please email Carol at [email protected].”
