Peter trimmings, from the school, commented: “Creative art is not the first thing you imagine when thinking about robotics.

“But the team from De La Warr Pavilion led the children through a series of activities which helped them to create their own amazing contraptions, using simple house hold items like old CDs and rubber bands combined with miniature motors and power sources.

“The year 4 classes, who had been reading Ted Hughes’ book The Iron Giant at the time, were given a chance to build a range of mechanical marvels which reflected the Iron Giant’s movements and engineering processes.

“The groups then explored how different forces could be used to power movement and in turn create their own surrealist art.

“At the end of the day one child commented: “I can’t believe I made that happen! It just ran across the table all by itself.”

Examples of the children’s and their robot’s work are now being proudly displayed in the school.
