They said: "Meghan was sadly taken from us travelling back from a night shift as a passenger with a colleague from work. Sadly, she never regained consciousness. As a family, we would like to thank all the members of the public and emergency services who attended.

"You were a beautiful, happy soul, who never saw wrong in anybody. You always had the biggest smile and lit up any room. A very loving, daughter, sister, aunty and girlfriend, you will be missed by so many."

Emergency services were called to the scene near to the entrance of Folkington Manor at 5.24am where a Ford Ka had been in collision with a Ford Transit van.

The driver of the Ka, a 27-year-old man from Hastings, and the driver of the Transit, a 54-year-old man from Polegate, were taken to hospital with critical injuries. Both remained in hospital on Monday (June 8), police said.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam or other information about the vehicles involved is asked to email [email protected] or call 101 quoting Operation Paragon.
