Hastings magistrates court clerk to retire after 42 years

Andrew Gill will complete his more than four decades of service on December 23.

He started his career in 1978 at Bexhill Magistrates Court, in Buckhurst Road, before moving over to Hastings.

During his career, he qualified as a solicitor and worked at most of the courts in Sussex, including Hastings, Bexhill, Battle, Rye, Eastbourne, Hailsham, Mark Cross, Uckfield, Lewes and Brighton.

Kim Goodall, who joined Bexhill Magistrates Court in 1980 and worked with Andrew for 11 years, said he has earned the respect of everyone he has dealt with, including judges, magistrates, work colleagues, the legal profession and members of the public.

Kim added: "He is considered as being someone who would always go that extra mile to assist.

"His retirement will leave a huge gap in the magisterial service, which will be difficult to fill."

Andrew will retire to Bexhill where he lives with his wife Wendy.

Kim said Andrew is looking forward to his 'well-earned retirement' where he will pursue his passion for fishing, and music, as well as supporting Brighton and Hove Albion.
