Hastings records coldest consecutive days for 30 years

For the first time since 1991, Hastings had six consecutive days where the air temperature was at freezing or below at 9am.

On Monday (February 8) the maximum temperature recorded all day was -0.6°C, the coldest maximum temperature in a day since February 2018.

The town saw very little of the snow which fell heavily in parts of Kent, but Storm Darcy did bring freezing temperatures, thick ice and heavy frost.

Cllr Colin Fitzgerald, deputy leader of Hastings Borough Council, said: “These figures show just how cold it was last week! Although no surprise at all, it’s very useful to know the figures, and I am very grateful to our team of weather volunteers who collect the weather readings every day of the year come rain or shine, or snow or frost. As well as being published locally, these figures are reported daily to the Met Office, and used to help their forecasters.

“We did introduce our severe weather arrangements at the start of the week so that rough sleepers did not have to sleep outside.”
