At about 1.40pm on Saturday (August 22), police were called by a member of public who had found what they thought to be two aircraft bullets in Whatlington.

The items had been taken to an address in Bexhill, according to police, where officers collected them for safe storage until Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams were able to attend.

EOD attended and safely carried out a controlled explosion at The Oval, Bohemia Road, shortly after 1pm on Sunday (August 23), a police spokesman confirmed on Tuesday (August 25).

Residents reported hearing a ‘huge bang’ around this time, with others saying they heard it from the West Hill, Cambridge Road and London Road.
