Two people die in Sussex house fire

Two people have died following a fire at a house in Sussex, police and the fire service have confirmed.

Emergency services received a report of a significant fire at a residential property in Harbolets Road, West Chiltington, at 9.10am this morning (Saturday, December 26).

A fire service spokesman said: “Fire engines from the local area arrived quickly at the scene.”

A section of the road was closed, and remains closed, while emergency services continue to work together.

The fire has since been extinguished, the fire service said in a joint statement with Sussex Police.

West Sussex Fire and Sussex Police said: “Two people have sadly been confirmed deceased at the scene.

“Police are still actively liaising with the fire service to ensure the building is safe and to determine if any other persons are present, and a joint investigation will take place to ascertain the cause of the fire.

“We have no further information at this stage.”
