Pestalozzi students celebrate aftergraduating at Sussex Coast College

Two first year students Tsungai Mujera from Zimbabwe and Sushant Subedi from Nepal, humorous and thoughtful commentary

Pestalozzi Chairman Derek Blackman said: “It is a time of mixed emotions as we celebrate the successful outcome of two years’ hard work on the part of the students knowing that we will also be saying goodbye to them very soon.”

This year saw the first Indonesian students graduate from Pestalozzi. Yanti Manurung has already secured a scholarship to Swarthmore College and Roseline (Etta) Simanjuntak will be heading to Duke University in the States in the autumn.

Guest speaker High Sheriff of East Sussex, Michael Foster praised students saying: “It’s amazing to see what the students have achieved. Not only do they work hard for their A Levels, but they also contribute back to the local community in so many ways.”

Marshal Mugwagwa from Zimbabwe reflected on his Pestalozzi experience, commenting: “The Pestalozzi Scholarship brought me hope in my education. The opportunities I got so far through this are uncountable. I got to meet new people, visit new places, as well as building lasting relationships.”

In a very moving farewell the first years gave a wonderful rendition of One Direction’s ‘History’ and a group of the boys paid their tribute to fellow students through dance.
