Philandering duck's spirit of adventure

THE EGERTON park duck crippled by metal dart has been identified as Muskey - a philandering Muscovy who escaped from a private garden.

Muskey left his home, in the garden of duck breeder, Darren Reasbeck, of Springfield Road, around a month ago, leaving no trace of his whereabouts.

A bird with an adventurous spirit, Muskey left behind his mate Donna (or Donald) the duck for pastures new, leaving Darren's family to fear for his safety .

Fortunately, the duck lovers were able to trace their former pet after being tipped off that someone had released him into the park, where he is now thriving on the attention of quacking females.

The family visit Muskey (pictured with a red dart in his back), who is just a few months old, on a regular basis, but were shocked to read about his suffering in the Observer.

Park staff say Muskey has preened out the dart, but Darren is still concerned for his duck's safety. He said: "I think it's disgusting that someone could do this to him. I'm struggling to find the words - I just don't know how people can be so cruel to animals."

"The park staff seem to think he's all right here, so I won't be taking him back. I think someone must have found him in their garden and brought him here."

Darren was delighted to read about Muskey's new found celebrity status and hopes he will have a healthy future on the park ponds.

He added: "He seems happy here and if he needs treatment from a vet I wouldn't mind paying for it at all.

"I really cannot see him coming back to just one woman."
