Bexhillians are being urged to fly the green flag and get behind a bid to name Egerton Park Britain’s best.
Earlier this year the park was given the Green Flag award for the third year running in recognition of its excellent facilities, high standards and community involvement.
Rother District Council is now asking people to vote online for the park in the annual People’s Choice award and help it claim top spot out of 1,582 Green Flag sites nationwide.
Cllr Simon Elford, RDC’s portfolio holder for culture, tourism and leisure, said: “We were delighted that Egerton Park was again awarded Green Flag status, and think it would be a fitting tribute to the hard work of everyone involved if the park was named the country’s top green space.
“Investment to renovate Egerton Park over the past two years has restored it to its former glory and one of the jewels in Bexhill’s crown. I would urge the thousands of people who enjoy this amazing space day in, day out to get online and get voting.”
Egerton Park received a £1 million renovation over the past two years, funded by RDC and money through the EU’s 21st Century Parks scheme.
The renovation has included a new play area, refreshment kiosk and sensory garden, as well as refurbishing large areas of planting and repairing the edges of the boating lake.
The park has also been equipped with an outdoor gym, basketball area, football goal, tennis wall, climbing wall and freestyle-area for street dance and martial arts.
Vote for Egerton Park by visiting http://greenflagaward.org/award-winning-sites/south-east/ selecting the South East region from the interactive map, searching for Egerton Park and clicking ‘vote for this site’. Voting closes at noon on September 30.
