Police appeal after £500+ Colonnade vandal attack

POLICE issued an appeal for witnesses this week after vandals did more than £500 worth of damage to newly-restored Colonnade lighting.

One of the polycarbonate globes was wrenched from the balustrade between the Colonnade's two cupolas at the weekend and smashed.

Rother planning project manager Richard Shoobridge oversaw last summer's scheme which saw restoration of the globes and standards together with the installation of computer-controlled coloured lighting displays inside the cupolas and the floodlighting of the Clock Tower and Museum.

He said the polycarbonate globes cost 500 each to replace.

*Ironically, the attack comes just as local photographer Brian Hazell has made a moon-lit study of the much-photographed and admired Colonnade.
