Police appeal - "Is there a cannabis factory near you?"

POLICE this week appealed to the public to contact them if they spot suspicious behaviour in a neighbouring property.

The appeal followed last Thursday's police raid on a property in Cornwall Road, where a cannabis-growing hydroponics factory was discovered.

Officers removed more than 700 cannabis plants from the property plus heat lamps, timers and an irrigation system.

On Saturday, Hung van Nguyen, 50, appeared before magistrates at Hastings charged with illegal cultivation of cannabis.

Nguyen, a Vietnamese national, was remanded in custody to stand trial at Lewes Crown Court.

On Tuesday, Inspector James Scott of the Bexhill Neighbourhood Policing Team, praised the public-spirited action of a person who contacted police about the Cornwall Road property.

Inspector Scott said: "We would ask all the people of Bexhill if they have any suspicion of the property next to them '“ where the windows have been blacked out or people have rented the property and are never seen '“ to contact us if they think the property is being used for illegal purposes."
