Addressing supporters this morning Mr Farage called results a ‘victory for real people’ and a ‘victory for decent people’.

Although more than 100 centres across the UK have yet to declare, the leave campaign has scored a number of significant victories across England and Wales.

Labour MP Chuka Umunna described the result as ‘seismic’ and said it would ‘affect every person, every single family, and every single community’.

Six areas in Sussex have already declared with Eastbourne, Hastings, Crawley, Rother, and Chichester all voting to leave the EU, with only Lewes backing the remain side so far.

Caroline Lucas, Green MP for Brighton Pavilion, said she was ‘devastated’ and ‘personally heartbroken’ by the result. She felt the EU was a ‘proxy for very legitimate anger’.
