East Sussex County Council is urging anyone aged between 11 and 16, who lives or studies in the county and are passionate about their community, to stand as a candidate.

The successful candidates will join the Youth Cabinet to campaign on issues affecting young people and represent the views of young people to decision makers, including the county council.

Applications close on Friday June 12 and nominees will face the ‘Big Vote’ in November when young people across East Sussex will go to the polls and choose who represents them on the Youth Cabinet for up to two years.

The Big Vote will see 20 Youth Cabinet members elected, representing six wards - Wealden, Lewes, Coastal, Eastbourne, Hastings and Bexhill, and Upper Rother.

Tash Cummings, participation worker at ESCC, said: “This opportunity is open to absolutely anyone. You don’t need to be an A grade student.

“If you have an opinion, and want to find out what other young people think, then you have what it takes. We want young people to come forward who feel that their opinions don’t often get heard.”
