RESULT: Wealden votes to leave European Union

The majority of Wealden residents have voted to leave the European Union.

The district’s referendum result was the last in Sussex and one of the last across the country declared this morning, with 55 per cent backing leave, compared to 45 per cent voting for remain on a turnout of 79.3 per cent, one of the county’s highest.

Wealden joins Arun, Adur, Chichester, Crawley, Eastbourne, Hastings, Rother and Worthing in backing the leave side, which triumphed nationally.

The majority of residents in Brighton and Hove, Lewes, Horsham and Mid Sussex backed the remain campaign.
