Popular receptionist retires after 28 years at accountants

WHEN receptionist Evelyn Bird joined the Bexhill branch of chartered accountants Honey Barrett Limited in November 1983, little did she know that she would still be greeting customers and attending to office duties almost 28 years later.

But now Evelyn has retired, and as a token of her employers and colleagues’ gratitude for all her hard work, she was treated to a ride in a stretch limousine and lunch at the prestigious Cooden Beach Hotel.

Bexhill office director Liz Densley said: “Evelyn always ensured that everyone received a warm and friendly welcome when telephoning or visiting the office.

“She had an understanding ear for both visitors and fellow team members, and was always happy to help talk through problems. She very quickly gained the role of ‘mum’ to the team.”

Familiar to staff at Honey Barrett’s offices in Eastbourne and newly acquired Wadhurst, too, Evelyn was wished a long and happy retirement by colleagues at all three locations.

Now she aims to spend more time with husband, Philip, and their family, as well as pursuing a leisure interest in genealogy.
